Becoming a Sound Therapist

Assessment

Grading & certification

Multiple-choice quizzes run throughout the course. Achieve at least 80% to pass — retake any quiz as needed. The final exam includes eight open-ended questions that assess your understanding of sound therapy's practices, principles, and scientific foundations.

For your assignment you'll submit five case studies documenting sound therapy sessions with friends, family, or existing clients. Upon successful review, your certification diploma is automatically issued by email.

What's required to receive a sound therapy certification?+

Complete 30 video lessons, study the accompanying course textbook, complete the practice quizzes, pass the final exam, and complete the case study assignment.

How long does it take to complete the course?+

Some students complete the course in as little as 30 to 60 days, depending on your schedule, goals, and how long you take to complete your case studies.

Where is this certification valid?+

You can practice anywhere in the world with this certification. It is accredited through the Complementary Therapists Accredited Association, and the IOCE sound therapy curriculum is comprehensive and science-based.

Is this course conducted via Zoom?+

No — the course uses pre-recorded videos that visualize the material in the textbook. The instructor is available to answer questions before, during and after your certification. We also provide ongoing marketing advice and support.

Do I need to own bowls or instruments to start?+

You do not need instruments to begin the course. Once you have chosen the tools you are most drawn to, you can acquire them for your case studies. The course includes buying tips and usage guidance.

Do I need a formal education in music?+

Although beneficial, you do not need any previous experience with playing an instrument or reading music to become a sound therapist or to complete this certification.

How long do I have access to course materials?+

You have until September 1, 2026 to complete this course.

Can I retake the test?+

Yes — you can retake the test as many times as necessary.

What are case studies?+

Case studies are five short reports on sound therapy sessions you give to friends, family or clients.
